    pinhole camera
  • The most basic form of a camera in which no lens is used. A pinhole camera is made by making a lightight container and poking a pinhole in the front of the camera where a lens would go.

  • A camera with a pinhole aperture and no lens

  • A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture -- effectively a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through this single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box.

  • A camera whose lens is covered except for a pin-sized hole. You have a very small aperture, so you have to shoot long exposures.

  • A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.

  • A digital SLR. Exactly the same as an SLR except that a digital sensor is used to capture the image instead of film. See SLR.

  • Well many people just say SLR they do not know what it means at all SLR is a abbreviation for  single-lens reflex (SLR).

Pinhole dslr

Pinhole dslr

I've always wanted to try making a real pinhole camera, and for a couple of months ago, I did make one out of a 0,9 ltr. paint can - but never got the time to try it out.
So today, I decided to remodel my D80 into a DIY pinhole camera. A few days ago, I bought an extra camera body cap, and went on converting it into a pinhole body cap. I will upload a picture of it, soon.
To prevent any dust from entering the pinhole, I glued an old UV filter on to the front of the cap.

Now comes the hardest part : The size of the pinhole. Calculating exposure time... ISO settings etc. etc..
so there's gonna be a lot of trial and error. :-)

This here is taking through my living room window, and I know there's dirt and salt on the outside of it, so that may as well show up on the picture, as being "dust".

The settings are:
Exposure: 212 sec.
ISO Speed: 800

And if there's just the slightest dust on the sensor, it shows up here - VERY clearly :-)

DSLR vs altoid pinhole

DSLR vs altoid pinhole

the apertures for our altoid pinhole cameras were made by gingerly pricking a teeny, well, um... pinhole in a small piece cut from a foil pie plate. we then scanned the holes in at 9600 dpi to measure them, and performed a bunch of questionable calculations to determine exposure time. we brought our dslr's along as light meters, took whatever exposure the camera had, multiplied it to the 5th power, divided it by total guess, and this is the result.

Lensbaby Scout with Fisheye Optic for Canon EF Mount Digital SLR Cameras

Scout with Fisheye, a fun and affordable manual focus Fisheye SLR camera lens, is available in mounts for all popular SLR camera bodies. Scout, the first Lensbaby lens that does not bend, features the Fisheye Optic, which delivers an ultra-wide 12mm focal length capable of capturing a 160 degree angle of view from infinity all the way down to 1/2 inch from the front of the lens. The Fisheye Optic can also create unique flare effects in an image. The Scout with Fisheye ships with the Fisheye Optic installed, but photographers can use other Lensbaby Optic Swap System optics such as Soft Focus, Pinhole/Zone Plate, Double Glass, Single Glass, and Plastic. With Lensbaby's selective focus optics, (Double Glass, Single Glass, and Plastic) the sweet spot of focus will always be centered in the photo. The Fisheye Optic features a creative lens flare effect that causes the edge areas that would ordinarily be black to glow with color whenever there are bright light sources in the image. This lens flare effect is particularly apparent when shooting with a full frame camera though it is also apparent when shooting with APS-sized sensors. The ability to focus one half inch in front of the lens provides an extraordinary way to explore macro photography. Get close enough to a flower to nearly touch it - while capturing the entire garden surrounding it in the frame.
